How the site works
1. What's the purpose of the site?
See the About page for a little story about that. Basically, the idea is to share start words and see how different people solve the Wordle from the same beginning word. The site started development on Aug 20, 2022 and went live on Sep 24.
2. How does that work?
At the top of the home page every day, two suggested words for the day are posted - one a bit harder and one a bit easier. The idea is to pick one and use it as your first word in the Wordle puzzle for that day. And then to come back and post your results to compare with others who have also used one of those start words. Solutions that don't use one of the day's Wordle Start start words are not able to be saved.
3. So this site is not for those who use the same start word everyday or have a specific strategy they use every day?
No, it's not. If that describes you, it's probably not your cup of tea. This site is for people with a more free-spirited Wordle approach who like to mix it up a bit. I am firmly in the "new word every day" camp and I don't really care if it's my word, as long as it's a different word. I think every start word is totally solvable and the variety is interesting. If you're getting bored with a repetetive Wordle approach (like I was), you're not alone. I come across people like that on Reddit quite often. Here's an alternative.
4. Where do the words come from?
The initial word suggestions have been programmed by the webmaster during development. But part of the site has been set up to take suggestions from registered visitors and give other visitors the opportunity to vote on them. A suggestion consists of a set of one harder and one easier word that will be featured together on a specific day and credited to the visitor who contributed the two words. If you are a registered user you can vote on suggestions on the Suggestions page. You can vote one time for each suggestion set.
5. Do you need to have an account?
You're free to visit and use the suggested start words in your own Wordle play. But to upload your results to show other people, to make suggestions and vote on suggestions, and to use the discussion system, you do need to be logged in. It's a quick process, with only three required items - a username, a password, and an email address for confirmation. Or, you have the option of logging in with your Google account and bypassing the local registration.
6. Are there other features on the site?
There are other features on the site, like searches and lists, but sharing and playing common start words is the heart of the site. You can explore the navigation links above for more features. When you register, you can also include your favorite five-letter word, and there's a list for that.
